Sri Lanka squad for ODI against Bangladesh out; Tamim Iqbal to lead Bangladesh in absence of Mashrafe Mortaza
Sri Lanka announced their squad for the 3-match ODI series against Bangladesh commencing from July 26.
Dimuth Karunaratne who led the Sri Lankan team in the ICC World Cup 2019 is named the skipper for the ODI series. The first match will be held at R. Premadasa Stadium on July 26 followed by the other two on 28th and 31st, respectively. Sri Lanka ended their World Cup 2019 campaign at the sixth position of the points table.
As far as Bangladesh is concerned, Tamim Iqbal replaces Mashrafe Mortaza as the new skipper for the team. Mashrafe Mortaza who led the team in the ICC 2019 World Cup is ruled out of the team post a hamstring injury during the team’s final net session at Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Dhaka. Bangladesh, however, had a poor show in the World Cup with only Shakib Al Hasan rising up to the occasion.
Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) senior physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury said in a statement that Mushrafe Mortaza injured his left hamstring during the training. “It is a recurrent injury that could take around three to four weeks to recover from. Therefore, he is ruled out from participation in sporting activity for a month," he added.
