Sri Lanka’s legendary cricketer Lasith Malinga is all set to hang his boots from One-day Internationals after playing the first of the three-match series against Bangladesh. He performed brilliantly in the ICC World Cup 2019, however, having already entered late 30’s, the fast-bowler has decided to call it a day in ODIs.

Confirming Malinga’s retirement, Sri Lanka captain, Dimuth Karunaratne said in a press conference,

"He is going to play the first match. After that, he is retiring. That's what he said to me. I don't know what he said for the selectors but for me, he said he is playing only one match,"

Malinga was included in the ‘surprising’ long 22-member Sri Lanka squad for the Bangladesh series.

The 36-year-old, having left his marks at several levels, will always be remembered as one of the finest seamers produced by Sri Lanka. The pacer though might continue to play T20 cricket probably till 2020 T20 World Cup.

Earlier this year, he showed touch while playing for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League while extended his form in the World Cup. He finished as highest wicket-taker for Sri Lanka with 13 wickets in 9 matches.

The Lankans would be hoping to give him a great farewell by triumphing against Bangladesh in the first ODI of the series. However, it won’t be easy, considering the form Bangla Tigers displayed in the just-concluded World Cup.
