Mashrafe Mortaza to announce retirement after going back to Bangladesh from World Cup 2019, says Ramiz Raja
Mashrafe Mortaza is another cricketer who played his last World Cup. He is expected to announce his retirement after flying back to Bangladesh
Mashrafe Mortaza has joined the long line of players who are retiring after the World Cup, with commentator Ramiz Raja stating that the Bangladesh skipper will announce his retirement after flying back to his country.
Speaking to ICC presenter Zainab Abbas before the clash between Pakistan and Bangladesh, Raja stated that Mortaza, in a casual chat at the toss, told him that he will be ending his career after the game. The 35-year old led his team brilliantly in the edition, but many critics attacked him for his failing fitness standards and for his overall below-par performance.
Bangaldesh put up their best World Cup showing in 2019, as they beat teams like South Africa, and gave the other sides a tough fight. Shakib Al Hasan ended the edition on a high with 606 runs - and became only the third batsman after Mathew Hayden and Sachin Tendulkar to score 600+ runs in an edition. He also became the second batsman after Sachin to score seven fifties in a single World Cup edition, and the first to score 600 runs and pick 10 wickets.
Mortaza joins players like Imran Tahir, JP Duminy and Shoaib Malik who announced their retirement after the World Cup. Other legends like MS Dhoni, Lasith Malinga and Chris Gayle are playing their last World Cup and are expected to retire soon.
