India vs West Indies 2019: Kemar Roach doesn't want India to add more than 50-60 runs
Kemar Roach opens up on his brilliant spell on the opening day of the first Test against India
West Indies pacer Kemar Roach had a great start to the Test series as he priced out three crucial wickets on the opening day of the first Test at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. At the end of first day's play he finished with figures of 3-34 off 17 overs. His wickets included Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara and Hanuma Vihari.
Roach said, "It was a normal Antigua pitch, where you would always get some moisture early on and help for the fast bowlers. The ball came out pretty good today. It's a place I love to play. I've had some success here before so I'm happy with how things have gone so far."
The West Indies pacers started on a bright note by packing off Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara and skipper Virat Kohli within eight overs. Later the rescue act was done to perfection by Ajinkya Rahane as he stitched together for partnerships with KL Rahul and Hanuma Vihari.
Roach said, "The pitch flattened out a bit quicker today than usual, so we had to be patient and build some pressure and challenge the batsmen."
On the whole Roach was happy with his side's performance. "It was a good day for us, we did a very good job with the ball. Having them 200 runs for six wickets down… I would take that."
He also felt that the morning session of day 2 will be crucial for both sides. "The morning session is going to be very crucial for us, you don't want them to punish us and go too far ahead of us. I will try to sneak up the wickets and get their bowlers out there as early as possible and attack them as far as possible. I think 50-60 runs tomorrow will be fantastic for us and let the batsmen go out there and get a good hit."
