In spite of scoring tons of runs opening the batting in ODIs, Rohit Sharma has not been able to cement his place in the Test squad. After starting his Test career with a bang against West Indies in 2013, where he scored 177 on debut and followed it up with another hundred in the second Test. After this start, Rohit has failed to deliver such knocks at the Test arena. Till date, he has amassed 1585 runs from 47 innings at an average of 39.62 with 3 centuries and 10 fifties.
His inconsistency in the longest format of the game has made the team management to persist with Hanuma Vihari for the series against West Indies.
On the other hand, KL Rahul has been given a number of chances at the top of the order in spite of not making any significant contributions. After his 149 against England at Oval last year, Rahul has failed to score a half-century. While players like Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan have lost their places in the Test squad, KL Rahul should consider himself lucky to be part of the set-up.
Ahead of the series against West Indies, Sourav Ganguly and several other former cricketers backed Rohit Sharma to come good at the top of the order in Test cricket as well.
However, when a cricket page on Instgram posted a meme about KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma surprised one and all by liking the meme and has created numerous speculations among fans.
The post read, "Averaging just 35 in Test cricket, but for many Indians, he is a Bradman… Rohit Sharma averages 40 in Test cricket and also has an average of 70 in last two years in Test cricket," with the caption "KL Rahul - one of the most overrated batsman in Test cricket."
