The much-awaited 2021 Presidential Inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th President and Kamala Harris as the first female Vice President of the United States saw lawmakers and celebrities in fashion and fierceness for a better America. Their stunning and well-tailored ensembles conveyed messages even before formal speeches were made. While most honourable ladies in the house preferred hues of purple, it was the First Lady’s ocean blue outfit where all eyes were on. The choice of colour and brand had a significance that’s no doubt going into pages of fashion history.

Who would have guessed that the First Lady of the United States would opt for a dress by a small New York City brand! In support of emerging fashion labels that were hard hit by the covid breakout, Dr Biden looked perfect in blue crafted by the brand Markarian. For the historic cold Washington morning of 20th January; Alexandra O’Neill, the founder of Markarian created an ethereal ensemble of a tapered dress with a chiffon bodice and scalloped skirt for Jill Biden. The high neckline featured Swarovski pearls and crystals hand-embellished in a delicate floral pattern. While the blend of red and blue dominated the ceremony, Jill Biden’s choice of marine blue was meant to signify trust, confidence and stability and she looked absolutely stunning in it.
The rich teal wool tweed coat indeed outshined others and the young American designer is gaining all laurels for her mindful creation that represented the incoming first lady in a classic silhouette in the colour of the Democratic party. Dr Biden’s conscious fashion choice was paired with a similar hued mask, gloves and a clutch by Tyler Ellis. Complimenting the subtle sparkle in her dress she opted for diamond step-cut earrings set in recycled platinum by Monique Péan. She relegated her usual slingback silhouettes for high heels that again matched her outfit.
