Kamala Harris makes HISTORY in purple outfit by a Black queer designer in FIRST outfit as Madam Vice President
It was a historic day for America and the world. Kamala Harris swore in as the first ever woman Vice President of the United States, making quite a few statements with her outfit choice! Here's all you need to know about the significance of it.
At the inauguration ceremony of the President and Vice President of the United States of America, Kamala Harris made quite a statement with her choice of outfit. Madam Vice President, who is known for sporting Converse sneakers, sharp blazers and tailored pantsuits, picked out a purple outfit by designer Christopher John Rogers, for her swearing-in ceremony on January 20th with Joe Biden.
At Washington D.C, Harris sent a powerful message while becoming the first female, Black and South-Asian Vice President, in the outfit created by the 27-year old designer, who took home the title of CFDA American Emerging Designer of the Year in 2020. Christopher John Rogers is a queer Black designer who already has fans in Zendaya, Rihanna and even Michelle Obama! Harris styled the tailor-made dress with a string of pearls and matching earrings which are also significant. They reference her time in the Alpha Kappa Alpha, the first inter-collegiate Black sorority. The gems are meant to symbolise fluidity and change over time while being tied to a strand to show a connection.

Harris completed her look with a pair of black gloves, black pumps and a black face mask while keeping her makeup fresh and to a bare minimum.
Madam Vice President sure did make heads turn at her swearing-in ceremony!
