Virat Kohli carried on his brilliant form in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 as he registered his 53th ODI century against West Indies at Old Trafford, Manchester. This was Kohli's fourth consecutive half-century in this World Cup and fifth of this calendar year.

Kohli, who has made scores of 72 (against West Indies), 67 (against Afghanistan), 77 (against Pakistan), 82 (against Australia) in the last four innings became the first Indian captain to score four consecutive fifties in World Cups. He equalled South Africa's Graeme Smith and Australia's Aaron Finch who achieved this feat in 2007 and 2019 respectively to become the third captain to hit four consecutive fifties in World Cups.

During the course of his knock, Virat Kohli also became the quickest to reach 20,000 runs in International cricket. He broke this record which was jointly held by Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara. Kohli reached the 20,000 run mark in his 416th innings, 37 innings lesser than the legendary duo.

Earlier in the day, Team India won the toss and decided to make first use of the conditions. Rohit Sharma fell cheaply for the second time in succession for 18 to a controversial decision. Then, fellow opener KL Rahul and Virat Kohli stitched together for a 69 run partnership. KL Rahul fell for 48 after he was cleaned up by Jason Holder. Later, cameos from Hardik Pandya (46) and MS Dhoni (56*) helped India post a competitive total of 268.
