Carlos Brathwaite's magnificent century went in vain as New Zealand pulled off a thrilling victory by 5 runs. Kane Williamson who was in the team's celebratory huddle, came out of it and consoled Brathwaite on his knock. His act earned praise from fans and pundits all over the world.

Earlier in the day, West Indies won the toss and chose to bowl first. After losing two quick wickets in the first over of their innings, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor stitched together a 160 run partnership for the third wicket as they made 148 and 69 respectively. Later, cameos from James Neesham and Colin de Grandhomme enabled the Kiwis to post a competitive total of 291.
