Chris Gayle, who scored 21 runs off 17 deliveries in the match against the Aussies, lost his wicket in a ball that was supposed to be a free hit. Michael Holding, Jamaican fast bowler called the poor umpiring in the game “atrocious” and said that they are getting intimidated by Australian squad’s appeal. He also mentioned that you are allowed a single appeal and you can’t appeal to the umpire several times.

Post match, all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite also expressed his anger towards the umpiring decisions and called it frustrating.  He mentioned that three decisions, as far as he can remember were dodgy and it sent ripples through the dressing room.

”To lose Chris in a chase of 280 -- he could probably get 180 of them himself. Whatever is to be done will be done, whatever is to be seen will be seen but as players we just need to get on with it. Obviously we were frustrated," he said to the reporters post match.

“Every time we get hit on our pad the finger goes up, when we hit the opposition on their pad the finger stays down," Brathwaite said.

This poor umpiring in such a big tournament cannot be overlooked. It wouldn’t be wrong to conclude that wrong umpiring cost Windies the match.

West Indies will play its next match against South Africa on Monday, June 10 at Rose Bowl cricket ground.
