With 30 games into the tournament, former England off-spinner Graeme Swann has gone on to predict the winner of the ICC World Cup 2019. A veteran of 60 Tests, Swann feels that England can still go on to lift the cup despite their loss against an under-performing Sri Lankan side. He said, "India were brilliant against Pakistan and they have every right to be up there in the betting, but I still fancy England to go all the way". The hosts now need to win at least two of their remaining three encounters against Australia, India and New Zealand to ensure themselves of a knockout berth.
Swann also backed England to beat Australia at Lord's. He said, " I am backing England to win the match. They will have regrouped after the Sri Lanka defeat and should have reached the conclusion that their only problems have come when they've been too conservative."
When asked about why he doesn't feel that Australia are not tournament favorites like England and India, He said, "Australia have been a bit lucky so far- their batsmen play a little bit old-fashioned and they were bailed out by Mitchell Starc against Sri Lanka. 'I wouldn't put them in the same bracket as England or India.' He also felt the same about New Zealand, " New Zealand are untested so far, playing all the easy sides and then seeing their clash against India rained off. They are not battle-hardened yet," He added.
Upcoming Assignments for England:
Against Australia on 25th at Lord's.
Against India on 30th at Birmingham.
Against New Zealand on 3rd at Chester-le-Street.
