Former England opener Marcus Trescothick, 43 has decided to call time on his career that began with a First-Class debut way back in 1993. Even at this age, he was seen carrying drinks for his side Somerset after not being picked in the XI for the game against Essex.

"I'd love to just run out there one more time with the shirt on and the hat on and do it that way."

The veteran was dropped after he failed to score runs in this season. He managed 23 runs after five games and his last competitive appearance came against Surrey, after which he was told he would be rested.

Marcus Trescothick will end his career with a whooping 40,000 runs and 96 centuries across formats.

"I'm well and truly over playing. I've had enough of going out there and working out how to try to bat."

Trescothick, a left-handed opener represented England in 123 ODIs between 2000 and 2006 scoring 4335 runs at an average of 37.37 including 21 fifties and 12 hundreds. In Tests, he managed to score 5825 runs from 76 Tests at an average of 43.8. A part-time bowler that he is, Trescothick has a first-class hat-trick to his name.

Undoubtedly, the greatest cricketer to have come out of Somerset, Trescothick will be remembered for his free-flowing strokes at the picturesque Taunton.

After serving his county side for 26 seasons, Trescothick will end his career with 26234 runs from 391 first-class matches with 66 centuries.
