A fatwa issued against Indian Idol junior contestant Nahid Afrin. She said she will fight back.
16-year-old Indian Idol junior singer Nahid Afrin against whom a fatwa was issued in Assam decided to fight back against the 46 Muslim clerics.
She said she is not afraid of any threats by them and will continue living her dream and make it big in the industry. She stated to a popular daily, "Was shocked and broken from inside at first, but many Muslim singers gave me inspiration to not quit music, will never do so."
When the fatwa was issued against her, she said, "My singing is a gift of God. I believe it must be properly utilised, not doing so is ignoring God."
The fatwa against her took place on the basis of the Sharia laws. Many pamphlets which had the names of the 46 organisations and individuals were found in different locations of Assam namely, Lanka, Hojai - areas where Nahid was set to be part of a musical show to be held on March 25, 2017.
The pamphlet stated, "Magic, Dance, Drama, Theatre etc. are against Sharia laws. Events like musical shows are against the Sharia law and future generations will be corrupted."
Many came out in support of Nahid, including musician Vishal Dadlani. He tweeted, "Just spoke with #NahidAfrin and her parents. They are standing strong. Told her that we all stand with her. She will not give up on music!"
Taslima Nasreen, the Bangladeshi author also supported Nahid by saying, "After getting the fatwa from 46 mullahs in Assam,16 yrs old Nahid Afrin said she'll never bow down and will never leave singing. Bravo girl!"
