India's former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been admitted to AIIMS situated in New Delhi after complaints of chest pain. The noted politician had been admitted to the hospital at 8.45 pm on Sunday and is currently under observation at the cardio-thoracic ward. However, more details are awaited regarding his current health status. Manmohan Singh who is currently 87 has served India for a period of ten years as its 13th Prime Minister. 

Singh, who is also a well-known economist and academic served the nation in the period between the years 2004 to 2014. He is the first ever Prime Minister to be elected for a second tine after completion of a five-year term since the time of Jawaharlal Nehru. The politician is a heart patient and has undergone multiple bypass surgeries. As per sources, his last surgery was conducted in the month of January, 2009.

Manmohan Singh was born on September 26, 1932 in Gah, Punjab under British India to Amrit Kaur and Gurmukh Singh. Their family migrated to India during the partition of 1947. He tied the knot with Gursharan Kaur back in 1958 and they have three daughters, Amrit Singh, Daman Singh and Upinder Singh. The former PM has received multiple awards including honorary degrees from many prestigious institutions.
