There is a common notion that slum kids are nothing but a bunch of losers! But these daring young turks have beaten all odds to show that there is nothing in the world that a daring soul can’t achieve. Despite living in poverty and other hurdles, these young teenagers have managed set an example for other slum dwellers like them who are looking for a ray of hope to get out of the hell they are living in.
Balaknama – a newspapers begun by a group of slum children with the financial support provided by NGO Chetna has become a hit with the persistence of these young guns.
The newspaper has a readership of about 10, 000 people across 4 Indian states and it covers news regarding the issues being faced by slum dwellers in parts of India. The reporters earns their daily bread by doing odd jobs during day hours and still find time to work for the newspaper.
They don’t earn any moneys with it yet for them the effort is what keeps them going.
