Former Pakistan cricketer, Inzamam-ul-Haq on Tuesday remarked that being Pakistan’s chief selector has been the ‘most challenging’ role of his cricket career due to the ‘hurtful’ criticism. "Being chief selector has been the most challenging role of my cricket career as I was heavily criticised for my decisions and I couldn't respond much," PTI quoted Inzamam as saying.

The former attacking batsman also responded to people who questioned his nephew Imam-ul-Haq’s selection in the team. He said that Imam would have not survived, had he not been a performer.

"Imam, I think would not have survived for so long in the Pakistan team and international cricket if he was not a performer. He had already played junior cricket for Pakistan and done well in domestic cricket even before I became chief selector but this fact was ignored by the critics which was hurtful for me," he said.

Inzamam’s tenure with Pakistan team as selector will expire on 31 July. He recently ruled out of reapplying for the post. After Pakistan’s not very good outing in the World Cup, the 49-year-old was criticised by some former cricketer for his role.

Meanwhile, Pakistan is likely to make some changes both in the team as well as management before proceeding to the upcoming assignments. Reports recently said that they will split captaincy and coaching roles for white and red-ball cricket apart from restructuring the staff.
