Veteran cricketer Chris Gayle on Friday made it to the West Indies ODI team as the hosts named their 14-member squad for the upcoming series against India. Gayle had earlier decided to retire after World Cup 2019, however, changed his mind later.
Apart from him, batsman John Campbell and all-rounders Roston Chase and Keemo Paul have been recalled. The tour begins with T20I series from August 2nd at Flordia.
Windies coach Floyd Reifer expressed happiness over Gayle’s inclusion in the squad.
"Chris is a very valuable player and he brings a lot of experience, a lot of knowledge, he lends a lot to any dressing room and it is great to have him in the squad," He said.
He also commented on team combination as it would be the first assignment for Men in Maroon after a disappointing World Cup 2019." He said.
"We have a mixture of some experienced and young ODI players. It is good to have Keemo, John and Roston back, and they will help to bring further balance to the team. Looking ahead to the series, I think we have a lot to build upon following the World Cup. We have retained a large number of players from the World Cup squad, so there is a lot to build on and I am looking forward to the series."
