Piercings are a part of our lives. Almost all of us have our ears pierced at a very young age. Piercings are a part of our culture too. It wasn’t uncommon for women to have multiple ear piercings and nose piercings back in the olden days. And we all just love wearing a little bit of jewellery. But in today's fast-changing world we are not limited to ear and nose piercings only. Body piercings and face piercings are in trend. It’s not uncommon to come across a person with an eyebrow piercing or a belly button piercing or something much more bizarre. But before we take a plunge and get one of these body piercings there are some important things that we all need to know. It’s essential to know what you are getting yourself into. So, here are some things you need to know about body piercings before you go and get one.
1. Do your research. Find out what piercing you want and what it looks like. Find out its pros and cons.

2. Find out the metal that is used for the piercing and for the jewellery. Metal allergies are pretty common and you don’t want to have an allergic reaction because it is ugly and painful.

3. Find out the health hazards that come along with the piercing. Find out the risks of developing infections.

4. Be informed about the healing time. Some piercings take up to a year to heal. It’s important to be informed and prepared to give your piercing the time it needs to heal. Find out about the aftercare process and how much care it will need to heal.

5. Get a tetanus injection to safeguard yourself before you get your piercing.

6. Think about your piercing. Be sure about it before you get it because it may not be a good decision for your life and career. Don’t make a rash decision because not many want to hire a person with a tongue or eyebrow piercing. Understand how it will affect you in the long run.

7. Accept the fact that the piercing may not turn out how you imagined. It may not look like the picture you saw when you decided to get it. It may not be as attractive. Also, remember that the initial jewellery that you wear after getting the piercing may not be as great. You may need to keep it low key till it heals.

8. Body piercings are painful. Period.
