While pies are the ultimate solution to every problem and they comfort you and make you feel warm, tarts are said to be the more elite version of pies. Both pies and tarts are desserts that consist of a crust and a filling.
They are similar in appearance as both are prepared in a circular dish. They also have a somewhat similar taste. Have a look at some of the differences between these two desserts, if you often tend to get confused between the two.

Pie
A pie is usually sweet or savory and consists of a crust and a filling. It has a top and a bottom crust which is thin and smooth and is made with ingredients like refined flour, salt, butter and sugar.
It has a flaky and crispy texture and is often served in the same dish as it was baked in. It is more firm than tart as it has two layers of crusts instead of one.

Tart
A tart is savory or sweet and has a bottom crust which is firm but crumbly. It doesn’t have a top crust and one can see the filling on top. It is made with ingredients like butter, sugar and flour.
The sides are shallow and while serving, the tart is removed from the pan or is usually baked in a pastry ring.
As they are considered to be more elite than pies, tarts are more delicate than them and consist of intricate patterns.
