Victoria's Secret reportedly hires first transgender model post announcement of cancellation of fashion show
The brand was called out last year for remarks made by an executive about transgenders and plus size models walking for the fashion show. Now, the brand has apparently hot a transgender model on board!
Last year in the later months, Chief Marketing Officer of Victoria's Secret parent company L Brand made derogatory statements revolving around transgender and plus size models. He said that they shouldn't be included in the company's television show, "because the show is a fantasy," in an interview with Vogue. He also said that this "Is a specialty business; it isn't a department store," and about how they don't think they can be all these things to their customers.
Razek later apologised for his statements which he thought came across as insensitive and made a clarification statement saying that he would cast a transgender model for their show. "It was never about gender. I admire and respect the journey to embrace who they really are. We've had transgender models come to castings...and like many others, they didn't make it," he said.
Angel Shanina Shaik revealed that the show had been cancelled.
Recently, news broke that the lingerie brand has hired its first ever transgender model - Valentina Sampaio from Brazil.
The model took to her Instagram to share a picture of herself and tagged VS Pink and captioned it :Backstage click. In another video she took on the set, she used hashtags #diversity #representatividade and #vspink in the caption.
