The fashion industry is one tricky place. Herein there is barely anything that belongs to yourself, not even your body. Minimal clothing and nudity are things that you sign up off, or rather have to sign up for if you want to sustain and make it big in this big bad glamour World. As a fashion model, you’re more or less treated as a prop and are subject to open objectification both on and off record. However, there’s a major sigh of relief as the ‘Agent’ app is helping models fight back against sexual harassment.

The founders of the app, Agent, found that the modeling industry has been taking undue advantage of the most important entity - the model. Mark Willingham, CEO, Agent said in a statement to a leading online website, “When we looked at the [modeling] business, we said what are the problems on the model side of things?” he added that there is a major lack of transparency, a lack of empowerment, and the fact that most models don’t get paid in a timely manner. So, we must change that," he added.

Through this newly launched app, models can book gigs directly with the clients rather than going through an agency. The app is all for model’s safety and for that reason, all the clients using the app must go through a three-part vetting process. The three parts include, a sex offender check, ID verification and a background check. The app lets the models rate and comment on their experience with the clients. Through this app models can directly talk to couples, watch videos online from runway tutorials to tips and advice or even how to tackle sexual harassment. Willingham further added, “We’re going to empower models with tools to actually grow their careers and not allow that power to lie in the hands of someone else who may not have the same interest at heart.”

Recently, the Council of Fashion Designers of America in partnership with Model Alliance just two days ahead of the New York Fashion Week had decided that models will have their own private area to change. This news was welcomed with a lot of joy as it was a step forward towards the larger goal of making the industry sexul harrassment free.
