The selection of leg-spinner Rahul Chahar in the Indian cricket team for the upcoming tour to the Caribbean was a good one believes former Indian cricketer Nilesh Kulkarni. Kulkarni welcomed the youngster’s inclusion, saying Chahar would act as a back-up spinner.

"Well, in my opinion, it's a good inclusion purely because Rahul had a good season last year. More importantly, if the selectors are addressing that area, if at all the injury or form concerns erupt with Kuldeep (Yadav) and Yuzvendra Chahal, then you still have a back-up bowler ready to fill in that slot and there is no void," PTI quoted Nilesh as saying.

The former left-arm spinner termed Chahar’s selection as ‘brilliant strategy’.

"So it is a brilliant strategy and compliments for that thought process of the team management and selectors. That is how you build (a team) by creating more options and not depending on one or two options," he added.

The leggie has been in top form in the domestic cricket for Rajasthan. He was amongst the wickets in almost all the three formats last season. Later, the young gun continued to hit the headlines during Indian Premier League 2019.

He bowled exceptionally well, playing a major part in Mumbai Indians’ title win. For his consistent performances, he was finally rewarded by getting a go for India’s upcoming tour to West Indies.
