ICC World Cup 2019: Former cricketer Geoffrey Boycott says 'England are a one dimensional batting unit'
England will take on the Aussies in the 32nd match of the tournament at Lord’s cricket ground.
England lost their previous encounter against the Lankans by 20 runs and where the team’s batting struggled against the Sri Lankan bowlers. England currently ranks fourth in the points table and will have to struggle hard in order to reach the semis.
However, former English cricketer, Geoffrey Boycott wrote in a column for The Telegraph that England is a one dimensional batting unit and they don’t seem to have a plan B or C. He added that even if they do have alternative plans, they do not execute it very well.
“Twenty times out of 21, pitches in one day cricket are conducive to big scores and England look invincible on those surfaces,” he added.
Boycott also added that when the team gets a pitch that is absolutely not perfect and the ball just sticks a little in the surface and does not quite come on to the bat, the team cannot handle it. Most of the players in the team are not capable of adapting or changing their way of batting.
Talking about Joe Root who has been extremely consistent throughout the tournament, Boycott said that he is an exception because his run scoring in cricket is based on an excellent technique.
He also mentioned that his opinion on James Vince and said that he is sorry for all those who think of him as an International batsman. He said that James plays pretty little cameos but keeps getting himself out without delivering a big score.
