Today, Charisma Carpenter opened up about the abuse she was subject to from Joss Whedon on Buffy The Vampire Slayer. For the unversed, Carpenter portrayed Cordelia Chase in the drama series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the spin-off series Angel. She took to Instagram and wrote: “The disturbing incidents triggered a chronic physical condition from which I still suffer. It is with a beating, heavy heart that I say I coped in isolation and, at times, destructively. Last summer, when Ray Fisher publicly accused Joss of abusive and unprofessional behaviour toward the cast and crew during reshoots on the Justice League set in 2017, it gutted me. Joss has a history of being casually cruel. He has created hostile and toxic work environments since his early career. I know because I experienced it first-hand. Repeatedly,” Charisma posted in a lengthy statement. You can read her full revelation on Instagram.

As soon as the actress came forward with her experience, many alums of the 1997 horror show stood up with her. Her former co-star Ray Fisher took to Twitter and called on fans to protect the former Buffy and Angel star at all costs. “I am forever grateful for her courage and for her lending her voice to the Justice League investigation,” Ray wrote. “Read her truth. Share her truth. Protect her at all costs. ‘It is time.’ A>E #IStandWithCharisma.” The Justice League actor wrote.

Sarah Michelle Gellar who played the lead in Buffy also spoke up via Instagram stories and wrote: “While I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon.” Soon after, Michelle Trachtenberg, who’s famously known for her role as Georgina on Gossip Girl, reposted Sarah Michelle Gellar‘s statement. Michelle played SMG‘s younger sister on Buffy. She added the caption, “Thank you @sarahmgellar for saying this. I am brave enough now as a 35-year-old woman….To repost this. Because. This must. Be known. As a teenager. With his not appropriate behaviour….very. Not. Appropriate.”
