Avengers: Endgame Director Joe Russo talks backlash on Game of Thrones; says he loved the final season
Joe Russo of the Russo Brothers and director of Avengers: Endgame was recently asked what went right in the Avengers storyline and what went wrong in the Game of Thrones storyline. Read below to know what Joe had to reply to the question asked by a fan.
April 2019 was monumental for two reasons; first, there was the release of Avengers: Endgame, which turned out to become the biggest film of all time, beating Avatar's (2009) lifetime box-office collections and second, Game of Thrones started airing season 8, which marked the final time we would see our favourite characters like Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. However, when it comes to the latter, the final season was met with a ton of criticism, which got so bad, that a petition with around 1.5 million signatures emerged demanding a remake of GOT Season 8.
During a recent Talks at Google Audience Q&A, Joe Russo of the Russo Brothers and director of Avengers: Endgame was asked what went right with the Avengers storyline and what went wrong with the Game of Thrones storyline. Joe responded by talking about social media's presence in today's world and how it affects an artist. The filmmaker feels that there is "an intense amount of ownership and opinion," which fly fast and furious. According to Russo, it takes up a lot of energy to "go online and b***h about something," while not everyone has the "energy" or "care" to do it. There's also a sense of narcissism attached to the deed.

Keeping his stance firm on GOT, Joe revealed that he loved the choices made by the writers in the final season. "They made the choices that they wanted to make with that show and people felt, what I think that they felt, was that they didn’t feel it was seeded properly throughout the series," Russo stated while adding, "I loved all the choices. I thought they were crazy and unexpected, and that’s what I want out of a narrative, but I see where people feel like they were upset."
However, the director also quipped that he is glad that Avengers: Endgame didn't get as "beat up."
