Pakistan vs Sri Lanka, World Cup 2019: Match abandoned due to rain
The match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka was called off due to rain at Bristol. Both the teams ran away with a point each from this match
The rain became spoiler as the Pakistan-Sri Lanka match was called off at Bristol on Friday. As expected it rained quite heavily at the venue throughout the day, enforcing umpires to abandon the match. Although there was some sunshine before the threshold time, the damp patches on the pitch didn’t allow any play.
It was the first match of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 that couldn’t get underway due to rain after a couple of warm-up matches were washed away. Both Pakistan and Sri Lanka ran away with a point each from this encounter. Lankans now stand at third in the points table with three points in three games while Men in Green climbed to number four with the same numbers.
The captains of both the teams expressed disappointment as they were excited to play and fetch a win.
“We came here to play. Really disappointed as a team and as an individual (with the washout).” Sri Lanka skipper, Dimuth Kuranaratne said after the match was called off. Pertinently, Sarfaraz Ahmed also wasn’t happy with the rain,
“We wanted to play the match, unfortunately, we couldn't do anything. We'll take one point before the Australia match.” He said.
Both Pakistan and Sri Lanka made an astonishing comeback after producing disappointing shows in the opening match of tournament. The former defeated hosts England and latter pipped Afghanistan after losing to West Indies and New Zealand, respectively. Pakistan next plays Australia on June 12 while Sri Lanka faces Bangladesh on June 11 at Bristol.
