Shrimaan Shrimati Phir Se: Here's how Rakesh Bedi found the character Dilruba
The 90’s superhit comedy series, Shrimaan Shrimati, was premiered yesterday night (March 13) in a revamped form. It 's titled Shrimaan Shrimati Phir Se. Rakesh Bedi recently opened up on how he found his character, Dilruba.
If you are the 90's kid, you would surely remember the nok-jhoks of Keku, Koki, Dil and Prema. The superhit TV show Shrimaan Shrimati is coming back with a new twist and tadka as Shrimaan Shrimati Phir Se.
The show premiered yesterday starring Barkha Bisht as Prema Shalini a.k.a Doll, Suresh Menon as Dilruba Jarnail Singh Khurana a.k.a Dil, Samir Shah as Keshav Kularni a.k.a Keku and Sucheta Khanna as Kokila a.k.a Koki. The basic plot - that of the two husbands having a soft corner for the neighbour’s wife and trying to impress them - remains the same.
Rakesh Bedi, who played the original Dilruba, was just the perfect fit and used to tickle our funny bone everytime we saw him on screen. He recently opened up on how he found his character. And interestingly, it was at a wedding function.
"Dilruba ka character darshana bahut difficult tha. Main ek shaadi mein gaya tha aur maine jab stage par dulhe ko dekha toh mujhe ehsaas hua ki mujhe Dilruba mil gaya. Uske baad main poore time bas usko aur uski body language ko observe karta raha. (It was quite difficult to play Dilruba. I had gone to attend a wedding fuction and when I saw the groom on the stage, I realised I have found my Dilruba. I spent my entire time observing his body language post that.)"
The director of the show Rajan Waghdhare said, "I have been in touch with Rakesh ji and he is excited to see the new season. Jaspal Sandhu, who played Mr Dalal in the original, is returning for the character. It was great fun shooting with him again. Were trying to bring back as many original cast members as possible."
Mr. Neeraj Vyas, Sr. EVP & Head, Channel SAB and MAX cluster of channels, in a statement, had earlier said, "In line with Sony SAB’s belief of Haste Raho, India, we bring to you a refreshed version of a classic TV series that brings back the same high-level comedy that made it a cult favourite, served with some new age flavours. Pure comedy never goes out of style, and that holds twice as true for a timeless show like Shrimaan Shrimati. In its all-new avatar, Shrimaan Shrimati Phir Se is packed with nostalgia, as an ensemble of versatile actors bring alive unforgettable characters in a contemporary setting. Waiting in the wings, this retelling of a classic is all set to entertain viewers all over again.”
