Talking about Netaji, he was one of the key figures in the Indian independence struggle. During the Second World War, he led the Indian National Army known aka Azad Hind Fauj to fight against the British. His famous slogans like Tum mujhe khoon do, main tumhe aazadi dunga continue to inspire many even today. If you want to know about his childhood and political journey, read on:

Subhash Chandra Bose who is also known as Netaji was born on 23 January 1897 in Cuttack (Orissa) to Janakinath Bose and Prabhavati Devi. He was a very bright student and was known for his patriotic zeal as a kid. He passed his B.A. in Philosophy and was strongly influenced by Swami Vivekananda’s teachings. His father who was a notable lawyer wanted his son to become a civil servant and had sent him to the University of Cambridge in England to prepare for the Indian Civil Service. In 1920, he passed the civil service examination, but in April 1921, after reading about the exploitation of Indian at the hands of Britsih, Netaji decided to do free India from the shackles of the British empire. He came back to India and left his candidacy.

In December 1921, Bose was imprisoned as he had organized a boycott of the celebrations to mark the Prince of Wales' visit to India. He later joined the Indian National Congress. He was also elected as the President of the Youth Wing Party. He worked under the leadership of Chittaranjan Das who was an active member of Calcutta Congress. Netaji regarded Chittaranjan Das as his guru and he started the newspaper ‘Swaraj’ and even edited ‘Forward’ and served as the CEO of Calcutta Municipal Corporation under Das’ stint as Mayor.

But later, differences between Gandhi and aggressive Subhash Chandra Bose increased to an extent that Bose decided to resign from the party in 1939. Bose also opposed Congress support to British during the World War 2 and later, he started a mass movement against using Indian resourced and men for the world war, but the British imprisoned him. Soon in the year 1943, Netaji bounced back with his movement against the British when Rash Behari handed Indian National Army aka Azad Hind Fauj to Netaji Subhash. In the year 1945, Bose reportedly died in a Japanese hospital in Taiwan due to burn injuries from a plane crash. He served many times in prison for his nationalist activities during this time.
