Gautam Gambhir wants Rishabh Pant to watch his back as Sanju Samson is throwing challenges at him
Gautam Gambhir warned Rishabh Pant ahead of the T20I series against South Africa. He also praised Shreyas Iyer for his brilliant performance in the West Indies
Former India opener Gautam Gambhir wants Rishabh Pant to be wary of talented wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson who is throwing challenges. He indicated that Sanju Samson is a possible replacement for Rishabh Pant after his brilliant performance for India A. Pant, on the other hand did not have a great West Indies tour and would look to make it count in the upcoming series against South Africa at home.
With MS Dhoni reaching the end of his career, the team management has backed Rishabh Pant to come good across all three formats of the game. In a column for Times of India, Gautam Gambhir wrote, "Rishabh Pant is always exciting but he has to watch his back as my favorite Sanju Samson is throwing some serious challenges at him."
Gambhir predicted a run-fest at Dharamsala where India will play their first T20I against South Africa. "Dharamsala is not a very big arena. And being at the higher altitude, the science guys tell me that the ball travels faster because the air is thin. All this means there will be plenty of boundaries if the pitch is good for batting."
He also felt that this series is a wonderful opportunity for the likes of KL Rahul, Manish Pandey and Shreyas Iyer to cement their place in the limited overs set-up. "It is another opportunity for young Indian batsmen to cement their place in the side. Manish Pandey looks much younger than his age of 29. Shreyas Iyer explained enough in the West Indies that he is a great deal more than the 'South Bombay' swag. KL Rahul is a force in white-ball cricket."
The first T20I will be played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala later in the evening.
