Engalnd, who had collapsed to only 85 in the first innings of the four-day Test against Ireland, did well to get back in the driver's seat, before their middle order let them down again. After Ireland had managed 207 runs in their first innings, thus helping them get a lead of 122 runs, the English team, in the second innings, were well placed at 171 for 1, before they slumped to 248 for 8. They eventually ended the day at 303 for 9, with rain cutting short the day's play.

Number 11 batsman Jack Leach, who had been sent to open the innings with one over left to bat for England on Day 1, scored a well-made 92. Along with Jason Roy's 72, the England team got off to a fine start, and took a lead without losing a wicket. They now lead by 181 runs, with one wicket still in hand.

Ireland will have a great chance to pull off one of the biggest upsets in Test cricket history after England's collapse set the tone for an exciting finish at Lord's.

Ireland are playing just their third Test match, after having lost to Pakistan and Afghanistan. However, that has not stopped them from dreaming, and they will be looking to get the last wicket early to chase down a target of less than 200.
