No single screens for ‘Ek Thi Daayan’?
Vishal Bharadwaj and Ekta Kapoor’s ‘EK Thi Daayan’ is all set to release this Friday. But there is a bad news for patrons of single screens, as Ekta plans to boycott single screen and release the film only in multiplexes.
The boycott is due to the ongoing rift between Balaji Motion Pictures and UTV Motion Pictures. Both the production houses are releasing films during EID, Balaji’s ‘Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai Again’ and UTV’s ‘Chennai Express’. Balaji feels that single screen theaters have sidelined ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again’ and given more importance to ‘Chennai Express’. By not releasing ‘ETD’ and Shootout At Wadala’ in single screens, Ekta is trying to put the pressure on them to change their mind.
Commenting on the same, Manoj Desai, owner of G7, Bandra, and Maratha Mandir, Mumbai Central says, “"Ekta's decision will harm her own film. Theaters won't shut down if she doesn't give us a movie. We will show some English release dubbed in Hindi instead. We don't like anyone trying to monopolize things." Yet, Manoj is hopeful that things will work out, as Manoj, however, is hopeful that things will work out.
‘Ek Thi Daayan’ will release on 19th April, 2013.
