Halloween 2018 is upon us and it's the scariest night of the year, where we dress up as our alter-egos. This could range from a scary witch to a sexy vampire, from our favourite superheroes like Batman and Wonder Woman to our favourite fictional characters like Sheldon Cooper and Blair Waldorf. In what is easily the spookiest celebration night, we let our hair down at Halloween parties and even go trick or treating with children to get all the candy.

However, there are those, who prefer staying indoors on Halloween night and instead catch up on horror films while in the process, have sleepless nights. While the horror genre is sometimes misused in Bollywood, where we get tactless tales with caricaturish characters, there are some which left us spooked. Stree (2018)

Starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, this 2018 hit film showed us how to tactfully blend horror with bouts of comedy. It was simply a horror comedy, done right. Stree is based on the supernatural spirit of 'Stree' who seduces men and all that's left behind them are their clothes.

Tumbbad (2018)

Tumbbad was a one of a kind film from the fantasy horror genre that is sure to give you sleepless nights. Starring Sohum Shah, Tummbad is a tale of greed gone wrong with horrific complications and is based on the first-born of a goddess, Hastar - someone who should not be worshipped. However, it's his innate ability to grant gold coins that drives the main protagonist Vinayak insane with greed.

Ek Thi Daayan (2013)

Starring Emraan Hashmi, Huma Qureshi, Konkona Sen Sharma and Kalki Koechlin, Ek Thi Daayan has all the facets of a supernatural thriller - from hallucinations to witchcraft. It's the ending that will leave you spooked, line and sinker.

Raaz (2002)

Vikram Bhatt's directorial Raaz, which is based on the classic horror film What Lies Beneath (2000) does complete justice to the original. Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea play a couple who move into a new house and quickly find out that a ghost is haunting their home.

Raat (1992)

What is considered as one of Ram Gopal Varma's best movies, Raat is a supernatural thriller film based on Manisha Sharma (Revathi) aka Mini who is possessed by the spirit of a kitten. This 1992 horror movie is a cult classic and deservedly so.
