Weight loss is one of the commonly Googled health topics as many people are suffering from obesity and we all know, that being obese is not healthy as it also triggers other health disorders and diseases. Weight watchers should know that nutritive diet and physical activity are two vital ways to lose weight. Coming to the nutrition part, Protein is one of the most important nutrients for weight loss.

In an exclusive interview, nutritionist and food coach Anupama Menon revealed the importance of protein intake while one is on a weight loss journey and she helped to separate facts from fiction. Menon said," Proteins help us to feel fuller and hence reduces the chances of munching or overeating while regulating the insulin levels. Having said as much, Indians can tolerate carbs well and carbs are important for most to build in a balanced healthy and sustainable food routine. A small amount of protein at night in the absence of carbs can raise the glucagon hormone that promotes fat loss."

She also added how too much intake of carbs can lead to fat storage. Anupama added," Too many carbs can peak insulin levels which results in fat storage, hence proteins in the diet besides being tissue repair agents are important macronutrients to burn fat and keep the desired body weight."

What are some of the best sources of protein?
Meats such as Chicken, turkey, lean beef and pork are some of the best sources of protein. One can also go for fish, eggs, dairy products, legumes such as kidney beans, chickpeas, lentils, quinoa, peanuts and almonds as they are rich in protein.

Smart tips and tricks for weight loss
Apart from this, she also revealed some smart hacks one can follow to lose love handles and extra pounds.

One of the tricks by Anupama suggested is going on a low-calorie diet for 2 days a week and following a normal diet for the remaining five days.

Another smart tip is by having 3 days of high proteins and 1 day of high carbs diet and can be followed in an alternate manner. 

Her final hack was about dinner, She said, "For those who get munchy and hungry in the evenings, try having a heavy meal at 4-5pm, like a dinner and then go really light at night by having a toast and soup or a vegetable stir fry with just 1/4-1/2 cup rice."
