Hosting a Diwali party? Here's how to make it FUN for your little guests

If you are hosting a Diwali party this week, your guest list must be ready already! While all of us get super busy planning all the tiny details of our parties, we often end up forgetting the needs of our little guests. It is important that you keep the tiny tots engaged, let them have fun responsibly and most importantly, get them to know their traditions. Adults quickly mingle among themselves at a gathering but kids are often unable to do so. So, make sure that you organise your party in such a way that every attendee gets to have a good time. Here are a few tips on how to make your Diwali party kid friendly.

Replace fireworks with eco-friendly activities

Diwali is a festival of lights and kids being kids, enjoy a good fireworks show. Although fireworks are fun to see, they are extremely polluting. It’s important that we teach our kids to be eco friendly early on in life. You can get the kids to light diyas, candles and lamps, and decorate the entire house. Make sure there’s adult supervision so that no one is harmed!

Organise a rangoli making event

Rangoli and Diwali go hand in hand. Buy organic rangoli colours and encourage the kids to try their hand at rangoli making. Kids love colours and making art so rangoli making will surely appeal to them!

Make a kid’s menu

Adults may enjoy elaborate meals and drinks but children often do not. You can have a separate kid’s menu which can consist of simple dishes, chaats, sweets and fruit juices. Be mindful of allergens and hygiene of this particular menu. You can also get the kids to make their own taco by putting up a taco making station complete with tacos and some freshly chopped vegetables and delicious proteins!

Encourage making a donation

Diwali is for everyone and many of us donate money and goods during Diwali. Charity begins at home and you can get your little guests to bring along toys, clothes and books to donate on their way to the party. Encouraging charity in young kids makes them empathetic, mindful and kind!

Have a game night

Kids love playing games, no surprises there. Organise fun games such as musical chairs, karaoke, scrabble and others for them to enjoy and play with each other. Games will keep them busy while the adults mingle with each other, and also encourage kids to interact among each other. Win-win!
