Considering getting tattooed? Here are 7 things you need to know before getting inked
Getting a tattoo is not as easy as it seems. Obviously, it involves a lot of pain. Here's everything else you need to know, before getting a tattoo.
Getting a tattoo is a bigger deal than it actually seems to be. You are going to have a permanent mark on your body that you are going to have to live with forever. Getting the first tattoo can be tempting, obviously, but homework also needs to be done before getting inked. Making rash decisions can lead to bad or ruined tattoos or worse, terrible designs. And getting rid of it will burn a huge hole in the pocket.
Here's all you need to know before getting inked
If you are getting words tattooed, spellcheck first
You don't want to go the rest of your life with a grammatically incorrect word on your body.
Understand your tolerance towards pain
Know your body's limits and reaction to pain. If you get hurt with needle pricks and small shocks, pick the right area to get your first tattoo. Ribs, elbows, the back of knees should be a total no-no if your skin is very sensitive and your pain tolerance is low.
Start with a small pattern
With your first tattoo, it is always better to test with a small pattern first. Allow your body to learn the process of tattooing, how your skin responds to the ink and how long your body takes to heal.
Costing should not be a priority
Yes, it is always a great idea to save money but don't compromise when it comes to your first tattoo. Opting for cheap places to get inked isn't the right option. You are getting a permanent mark on your body and that should be reason enough to be able to make a good investment.
Choose your pattern wisely
It is best to not opt for a pattern from Pinterest or Instagram. You want your tattoo to be yours. It needs to be personal. If you pick something from a public domain, somebody already has the same pattern, It is not unique anymore.
Take somebody with you
It is advisable to go for your first tattoo session with a close friend or a dear one. You could do with the moral support, somebody to make sure the tattoo is coming okay (if it is not in a place you can see) and it is always nice to have somebody by your side when you are in pain.
Take care of it
Once you have got your tattoo, your artist will tell you how to look after it to ensure it stays and heals. Whether it is taking medication, applying vaseline, creams or anything else, don't compromise on the care of your tattoo, or it could lead to infections.
