Skin care precautions to take before getting a tattoo

1. Quit caffeine and alcohol two days before

2. Stay hydrated

Make sure that you drink plenty of water for days before getting tattooed. A hydrated body ensures that the skin is supple and resilient to take the pressure of the needle, especially if you've got a long session.

Getting tattoos on sunburnt skin will be a very painful experience. Make that you use enough sunblock and so as to avoid any rashes, burns and general discomfort.

Skin care precautions to take after getting a tattoo

1. Moisturise well

Apply the prescribed lotion, cream, or oil over the tattoo exactly as per instructions. The tattoo will heal over a couple of weeks, so it needs moisture and protection during this period.

2. Don’t expose the tattoo to water for long durations

The tattooed area should be cleaned but must not be completely immersed in water. Take a quick shower and avoid bathtubs, jacuzzis and swimming pools for a few weeks.

3. Cover up properly

Do not expose your skin to dirt, grime and sunlight for a few weeks. Cover up with full sleeve, loose flowing cotton clothes. Do not wear clothes that make you itchy.
