When it comes to intimacy, it is not just about chemistry in the bedroom. Intimacy has many forms, be it emotional, intellectual or spiritual. Having various forms of intimacy in a relationship is essential to developing a holistic relationship with your partner.

It will enable you and your partner to understand each other and connect on a deeper level with each other, as opposed to connecting on a superficial level. By practising various forms of intimacy you both will develop a rapport with each other. So here are 4 types of intimacy that you and your partner should focus on.

Emotional intimacy

Emotional intimacy is when you two are not afraid of being vulnerable in front of each other. You can discuss your troubles, desires, dreams, fears, goals etc with your partner without feeling conscious. It happens when you trust them wholeheartedly and can safely confide in them without the fear of judgements.

Spiritual intimacy

Spiritual intimacy can go beyond praying or worshipping together. It can include you and your partner watching the sunset, discussing each other’s ethics and mindsets or even doing something as simple as taking a walk in the park together. This type of intimacy will make you two closer to each other and will help you two to develop a transcendental connection with each other.

Experiential intimacy

Having shared experiences will connect you two on a deeper level. It will enable you to work in unison for a common goal and have interwoven memories. For this kind of intimacy, you two can cook a meal together, go on a bike ride or on an adventure to have shared experiences.

Intellectual intimacy

Developing the ability to accept your partner’s differing point of view, will help you to develop this kind of intimacy, be it engaging in a debate, discussing your opinions on a famous book or discussing abstract concepts.
