So your friend has finally managed to set you up with that cutie in her office or you've finally matched with the right guy on tinder and you guys cannot stop texting. It is now finally the time for your first date!

First dates can be risky business. Here are some simple do's and don't you should keep in mind before you head out to meet your prince charming.

1. Don't be cold and aloof

Needless to say, it is important to be warm and friendly. You may be the queen bee and mean girl with your squad, but for your first date leave that crown behind. Be polite and considerate. Nothing kills a date faster than rudeness.
Don't be rude to the waiter or snotty to the bartender. Don't mock the behaviour — or outfit — of another woman in the restaurant. Be regal and rise above all forms of cattiness and smallness.

2. Display positive body language.

Lean towards him when he talks, make eye contact, smile. If you really like him, you will probably do these things without thinking anyway.

3. Do not engage in self-deprecation

Avoid pointing out any of your shortcomings you may come across as insecure and self-loathing. Men love confident women so walk in like a boss and don't forget self-love is the most important. You also run the risk of appearing “desperate” or “looking for a relationship for the wrong reasons.”

4. Don't mention ex-relationships

You don't want to give him the sense you're still hung up on your ex. And it can also be off-putting that you're randomly thinking about someone else while with him is rude. Besides, you are looking to move forward, not back.

5. Do offer to help with the cheque

This is a tricky one! To get the cheque or not! Always offer to pay if he insists on paying, then politely let him. Let him be chivalrous if he wants to. The first date is not quite the time to rant about equality.

6. Don't get too drunk.

Slurring on your first date is not a good idea! Avoid drinking much or getting out of hand. Remember it is only the first date, it may not be safe to get too drunk as well.
You may feel like you're funnier, more charming, and better looking when you've had a little bit to drink. But you're not!

7. Soul search

Be sure of who you are and headstrong and aware of what you want, do a little soul searching and be honest about what kind of a partner you want to be or are looking for.

8. Be yourself

Be authentic and real. Honesty and some level of transparency are always important.

9. Reveal your strengths, not your weaknesses

It is never a good idea to share your weakness with anyone, especially a stranger who you hope to start a romantic relationship with.

10. Don't Be too serious

Yes, you need to talk about serious topics when you're dating, but on the first date, it's important to keep the conversation pleasant and positive.

11. Ask thoughtful questions

It shows that you have a keen interest in him and it will only help you to get to know him better!

12. Don't dress too provocatively or overdress

Try to style the right balance between stylish yet sexy. Avoid excessive cleavage or barely there skirts.

13. Don’t try to over impress

If you’re trying too hard and puts more pressure than necessary on the date. The first date should be fun and fairly casual.

And last but not the least, don't forget to have fun!
