Strep throat is a bacterial infection that makes your throat feel scratchy and sore. This infection needs to be treated immediately without any delay, otherwise, it may cause kidney inflammation or rheumatic fever. Later, rheumatic fever can lead to having inflamed joints, rashes or heart valve damage. Generally, strep throat is common amongst children, but it might also be seen in adults. So, if you or your kids have strep throat, then consult your doctor right away to get it treated. But first, you need to know the symptoms of it to spot the infection.

Symptoms and causes of strep throat:

Strep throat symptoms:

Throat pain that generally occurs quickly.

A painful swallowing.

Red and swollen tonsils sometimes with white patches on it.

Very small red spots at the back of the roof of your mouth.

Swollen lymph nodes in your neck.

Rashes.

Fever.

Headache.

Nausea or vomiting, seen mainly in children.

Ache in the body.

When to consult your doctor for strep throat?

If things get severe, then consult your doctor. Signs are as follows:

Sore throat with swollen lymph glands.

Sore throat disturbing for more than 48 hours with fever.

Sore throat with rashes.

Breathing difficulties.

No improvement in strep throat even after taking antibiotics for at least 48 hours.

Causes of strep throat:

Strep throat is caused by the contagious bacteria Streptococcus pyogenes. If someone with this infection coughs or sneezes in front of you, then you are at a higher risk of having the infection by the spread of the droplets of the cough.

Risk factors of Strep throat:

Generally, children are more prone to this infection. And it mostly occurs during winter and early spring.

Where the infection spreads:

This infection may spread in:

Tonsils.

Sinuses.

Skin.

Middle part of the ear.

Blood.

Preventive measures of strep throat:

1.Wash your hands properly after getting back to home from outside or before eating.

2.Cover your mouth before coughing or sneezing or when someone coughs or sneezes.

3.Don’t share your personal items like glasses or eating plates.
