Happy Independence Day 2018: Restaurants that serve India on a platter

Today as a democratic country we celebrate 71 years of Independence, what better way to do so than indulge in a plate full of the diverse Indian cuisine. Restaurants around states up Independence Day as an opportunity to celebrate amazing food with special menus exclusive to traditional Indian dishes. With restaurants being elaborate, small cafes also jump into the bandwagon with special dishes if not curated menus! From Tricolour cupcakes to dimsums dressed in pure saffron, restaurants are plating their creative best and we can’t wait to try them!
The Roseate House presents a culinary spectacle starting today, the 15th of August to commemorate the “Unsung Recipes of India”. The Menu offers delights like Atta Chicken (Kot Kapura, Punjab), Railway Mutton Curry (Colonial India), Multani Paneer (Multan, Undivided Punjab), Bhooni Makai ki Raab (Rajasthan), Sepu Badi (Himachal Pradesh) and Mash ki Dal (Hyderabad). The Roseate House explains “Each dish featured on the menu unveils a timeless story as well as flavours that will linger on with diners long after the meal experience”. To taste the elaborate menu head to Kiyan and DEL, New Delhi foodies we definitely recommend you to try the hidden gems of Indian Cuisine.

The Westin, Gurgaon also puts together a menu that features signature dishes of all Indian states and union territories. From Brunch to Deserts the specially curated menu offers flavours that will delight you! The brunch offered includes dishes like Kashmiri Rajma, Punjabi Chole, Laal Mass from Rajastha, Hyderabadi Biryani, Rava Fish Fry from Lakshadweep, along with post brunch deserts like Ghewar, Raj Bhog, Jalebi and Imarti for those with a sweet tooth. The Westin restaurant spokesperson explains “The brunch has been designed around an interesting concept of showcasing all that our country has to offer. A classic dish from every state will be served with a story to tell.”

‘Mera Hindustan’ is an a la carte menu that offers dishes from across the country but recipes from pre-Independent India. To try this unique menu, Mumbaikars can head to Café Knosh at The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel. The menu offers dishes like Murgh Lahori, Haak ka Saag, Alu Gosht and Dakbangla Chicken as specials. Rohit Tokhi, executive chef explains the menu “We have chosen certain dishes from the provinces and princely estates of British ruled India to give our guests the taste of the regions they came from.”

Taj Mahal Hotel’s Machan menu also brags a well curated menu featuring their signature specials like Tiranga Pulao, Alleppey Fish Curry, Dal Machan and tricoloured sabz kebabs with deserts like South Indian Filter Coffee Crème Crulee and tricoloured Macaroons.

Other restaurants to try: Biryani by Kilo with a 15th August special tricolour biryani handi and Tanoshii Trail with tri colour sushi and Dimsum, as TOI suggests!
