Weight Loss: Do you crave food all the time? Here’s how you can easily STOP overeating

Food is something no one can live without. But, in e past few years and decades, it has become more of a please than a necessity. From pizza to burgers and all kinds of junk foods, the body’s craving for bad food has increased to no extent. While we make constant efforts to remind ourselves to ‘Put the cookie down’ we usually just give in to the craving.

According to Shape, ‘We're a nation of overeaters: Forty-one per cent of us are overweight; 23 per cent are obese. Just about all of us wish we could do a better job of listening to our brains when they tell us to stop eating. Despite our desire to be thinner and healthier, we shovel in everything from cheeseburgers to cheesecake.’

Well, so what can we do about it?

We all overeat because of external cues. The TV, social media and advertisements of fast food joints and other food places just make you want to crave food more. Unfortunately, these cues are all around us from billboards to marts and stations. This makes you crave food all day long even without noticing them making you hungrier than ever.

When you see something that triggers the craving even if you have eaten, just try the following tricks.

GO FOR A WALK

Just move away from the usual environment and go for a run or a walk. This will take your mind away from the craving and create a distraction.

EAT

Well, we know that the entire point of it all is to not give in to the craving. So just eat small portions of healthy foods at regular intervals. This will keep you full throughout the day and the cravings will automatically reduce.

DO NOT CURB CRAVINGS

If you diet excessively, you are bound to get hungry and crave for food. If you are constantly thinking of calories, body and exercise, you will always feel like something is missing out. So, just give in to the cravings with healthier options. If you are craving for a slice of cake, just make do with a piece of dark chocolate that has drastically low calories. Make sure you do not go ahead and indulge in the entire pack.

UNDERSTAND THE TRIGGERS

Just like alcoholism, a lot of us eat when we are under stress or depressed. According to Shape, ‘When you experience stress, your body responds by unleashing the stress hormone cortisol. This is part of the "fight or flight" response, which occurs when you perceive danger -- so that your physical capability to defend yourself or flee is temporarily enhanced. However, when you have chronic, unrelieved, day-after-day stress, your body remains awash in cortisol, which causes you to eat as if you've just done battle with an enemy.’

Bust the cycle and understand your triggers. Once you understand it all and know what works. Maybe cuddling with your pet can help you relieve some stress and in turn help with the overeating.
