The prestigious Miss America beauty pageant will no longer have a swimsuit round and it is official. Ever since Gretchen Carlson took over as the chairwoman of the board of trustees for the Miss America Organisation; rumours were rife that she would be the catalyst in changing the 96 year old tradition.

Carlson, made the announcement when she made an appearance on Good Morning America. She said, “We are no longer a pageant, we are a competition. We will no longer judge our candidates on their outward physical appearance. That means that we will no longer have a swimsuit competition and that is official.” This comes as a huge surprise as it was Miss America that started the swimsuit round trend.

Gretchen also confirmed that they will indeed be revamping the evening gown portion, she explained, “We will no longer be judging women when they come out in their chosen attire. Whatever they chose to do, it will be what comes out of their mouth that we're interested in." Talking about size inclusivity, she further added, “We are interested in what makes you, you. At the end of the day, we hand out scholarships to these women, we want more women to know that they are welcome in this organization."

This is surely going to be revolutionary and will help bridge the gap on how women are discriminated on the grounds of their colour, size and shape.
