MET Gala 2019: Deepika Padukone reveals the inspiration behind her Barbie themed Zac Posen gown

MET Gala 2019 took place and it truly was epic! The ball stuck true to its ethos of being the “Biggest Fashion Night”. The extravagant affair was celebrated at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Institute in New York on May 6th. The event as expected was graced by the most celebrated names from the glamour and fashion industry turning up and acing the “Camp: Notes to Fashion” theme to the T.

Well, in yet another proud moment for India, our desi girls - Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Deepika Padukone were in attendance too. Infact, Chopra Jonas was even on the Benefit Committee along with husband Nick Jonas. While, Priyanka went all out in her sparkling Dior number taking an inspiration from Mad Hatter (clearly), Padukone went down the Barbie way.

Deepika in a conversation with Vogue on the prestigious pink carpet of the MET Gala spoke at length about what went behind the creation of the outfit and what is her interpretation of Camp. As we expected her to be, she said that she was feeling great to be at the ball. She said, “Amazing! I feel incredible!” The 33 year old also added that she thinks that her designer, Zac Posen has clearly outdone himself and that she is having a lot of fun. We couldn’t have agreed more as her inner happiness was quite evident on her face.

The stunner was then asked what was the inspiration behind her outfit to which she said, “I know eventually I look like a barbie doll which is what I am feeling like when the whole came together. I think Zac’s inspiration was more like underwater, it has these beautiful sea urchins and that is sort of the inspiration. I think taking the theme and keeping it elegant and beautiful because I think that’s what Zac is, that’s who I am and just being respectful to the theme.” The poise, the elegance worked beautifully for her and she looked magnificent.

Furthermore she was asked what Camp really means to her and what is her interpretation. Deepika said, “To start of with I think it is extremely personal. Everyone’s interpretation of Camp is always very very different. Of course it is theatrical, it is drama and over-the-top but you want to do it in an elegant and respectful manner.” Clearly, she belongs to the squad who practices what they preach.

Deepika Padukone strutted down the pink carpet in a custom made Zac Posen gown with a dramatical hairdo and makeup, winning hearts all around the globe.
