Yuzvendra Chahal says that India’s win against Afghans will give them confidence to defend low totals: WC 2019
Indian cricket team managed to defend the low total against the Afghans and defeated them by 11 runs in the 28th match of the tournament.
Yuzvendra Chahal who picked up 2 crucial wickets for the team and conceded only 36 runs in his 10 over spell, believes that this victory will boost the team’s confidence. The team’s bowling unit rose up to the occasion in a tense match against the Afghans when the batting crumbled miserably. Bumrah’s death over bowling along with Mohammed Shami’s hat-trick spell led the led the team to the paths of glory.
Indian leg-spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal admitted that most of the times the team has defended a total of 340-350 and when you score 240 and 230, there are some negative points and some positives as well. He further added that these types of wins helps the team to gain that confidence of the belief that the bowlers can defend the target even if the batsmen put across 240 runs of board.
He also revealed that the team at first thought that they could easily manage to put 260-270 runs on board but the Afghanistan bowler’s bowled exceptionally well. They believed that they still have a chance if they put pressure on Afghanistan.
Yuzvendra further added that there are times you can’t even defend 350 and other times, you manage to defend 250. It’s all in your mindset, he added.
“We knew this game was very crucial – win this game and we would go to second or third position and after that we are playing England and West Indies and Sri Lanka. They are good teams." He further added.
