The Uncanny Counter star Jo Byung Gyu responds to allegations of school bullying; Agency to sue for libel
Actor Jo Byung Gyu has been accused of school bullying via an online post. He claims them to be malicious rumors and has filed a police complaint regarding the same.
Recently, an internet user posted online about being verbally abused by Jo Byung Gyu while attending high school in New Zealand leading the actor to file a police complaint against the ‘malicious rumors’. The actor who made himself known through the JTBC drama ‘Sky Castle’, recently rose to stardom by playing the main character, So Mun, of the OCN Drama ‘The Uncanny Counter’. Jo Byung Gyu, along with Yoo Jae Suk, will be hosting KBS2 TV’s new entertainment show ‘Happy Together Comeback Home’.
On February 16, a post started trending on Nate wherein a netizen claimed to have been bullied by Jo Byung Gyu while they were studying in New Zealand together. The netizen shared that there was no direct violence, but revealed that the actor resorted to verbal violence and instigated bullying. The netizen further asserted that Jo Byung Gyu often made obscene remarks, insulted teachers and talked about abusing drugs like marijuana. The netizen also claimed that their ultimate goal with this sudden exposure of the actor's behavior is an honest acknowledgment of the school violence and a sincere apology.
In response to the post, Jo Byeong Gyu’s agency, HB Entertainment, released a statement revealing that they have officially requested a police investigation into the matter. They also asserted that they would be responding strongly to any acts of defamation against any of their artists.
