Vijay Shankar, who made his World Cup debut against arch-rivals Pakistan was hit by a toe crusher from Team India's star Pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

However a team source informed that there is nothing to worry as of now. "Yes, Vijay was in pain but it has subsided by the evening. Hopefully, there's nothing scary," the source said.

Vijay Shankar was brought into the World Cup squad ahead of Ambati Rayudu considering the fact that he could add value to the side in all three aspects of the game. He too has lived up to this reputation and has fared well in the limited opportunities he has got with the Indian team.

Even in the previous game against Pakistan, when Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up a hamstring injury midway through the game, it was Vijay Shankar who took the responsibility of completing his quota of overs and even got a couple of important wickets to help Team India to a victory.

This injury to Vijay Shankar comes at a stage when, Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the tournament due to a thumb fracture and Bhuvneshwar Kumar is likely to miss out on at least two games due to a hamstring strain.

In Bhuvneshwar Kumar's case the think tank is still maintaining the fact that it is just a hamstring strain and nothing more. He has had issues with his hamstring in the past and in case if it is hamstring tear, there will be very little chance for Bhuvi to make a comeback in Team India's World Cup campaign.
