Sri Lanka vs India, ICC World Cup 2019: Let’s have a look at the key Lankan players to watch out for
Sri Lanka will take on the Men in Blue in the 44th match of the tournament, today at Headingley Carnegie, Leeds at 3 PM IST.
Dimuth Karunaratne led Sri Lankan cricket team currently ranks sixth in the points table with just three wins in the tournament so far. However, Sri Lanka is also the only team to get affected by rain twice in the on-going World Cup. Even though they are out from the race of semi-finals, the team will look forward to end their World Cup campaign with a high. Let’s have a look at their key players.
1. Lasith Malinga- This Sri Lankan bowler is the team’s most effective and reliable bowler and has contributed several times in the team’s win. Despite a poor performance in the tournament, Sri Lanka managed to defeat the hosts by 20 runs at Leeds where Lasith Malinga was named the Player of the Match for his exceptional spell against the English batsmen. He claimed four crucial wickets in that game with an economy of only 4.30. In the team’s previous match against West Indies, Malinga claimed three wickets with an exceptional economy 5.50.

2. Avishka Fernando- This 21-year-old Sri Lankan cricketer smashed a brilliant century in the team’s previous match against the Windies which led the team register their third win in the tournament by 23 runs. Against the Proteas, even though the team lost by a huge margin and faced a miserable collapse of the batting line-up, Avishka scored a solid 30. Avishka and Kusal Perera’s 30 was the highest score by a Sri Lankan cricketer in that game and the team couldn’t get past 203 runs against the South African bowlers.
