Sri Lanka Cricket Board to make changes in the coaching staff post ODI series against Bangladesh
Sri Lanka, who ended their World Cup campaign at the sixth position in the points table, is all set to make the necessary changes in the coaching staff post series against Bangladesh.
After a miserable World Cup where the team managed to rank sixth in the points table, Sri Lanka will look forward to make the required changes in its coaching staff post the One-Day International series against Bangladesh commencing from July 26, 2019. It is also said that the Sports Minister of the country demanded the resignation of the entire coaching staff of the Sri Lankan cricket team.
The coaching staff currently consists of Chandika Hathurusinghe who is the Head Coach of the current side, Jon Lewis as their batting coach and fielding coach Steve Rixon. The contracts of the batting and fielding coach were set to expire post ICC World Cup 2019.
ESPNCricinfo quoted SLC President Shammi Silva, “We're looking at that same line, but we (the board) will see what we can do when we come back. We first need to talk with the minister. The team has nothing to do with the coaching staff. It only becomes a problem if the players have bonded with the coaches. I don't think it will affect the tour (series against Bangladesh).”
Silva also mentioned that there are few guys in the coaching staff that have done well and they have already done an evaluation prior to the commencement of the ICC World Cup 2019. However, he mentioned that there is a need for them to do another evaluation according to which they will have a discussion with the minister to see what happens next.
