Shruti Haasan on how easy was it to achieve in music; ‘My parents never tried to launch me’

After a good two years gap, Southern and Bollywood beauty Shruti Haasan makes a comeback to films. The actress makes a comeback with a bang as she starts shooting for her upcoming Tamil film opposite Vijay Sethupati. Shruti had been away from films to make her career into music and has set a stage of fire quite times with her gig in London. Shruti Haasan has been proving herself in the musical arena as well; however, the struggle there was no different. The actress recently in an interview revealed how doors didn’t open there so easily despite being a daughter of Kamal Haasan.

In an interview with Chennai Times, Shruti Haasan spoke about the challenges and how it was different to achieve in music. She said, “It’s almost been the same. It’s really funny because my parents have never picked up the phone to tell someone to cast me or do a favour for me. And they have never tried to launch me. My first film was an absolute disaster, and I can proudly say that today because I overcame that. It took a lot of willpower. I was haunted with questions like, ‘Do I continue on this path’, ‘How much of a tough skin can I develop if I’m really going to continue’ and so on. But you are right. My lineage created that initial buzz... Kamal Haasan’s daughter! Sarika’s daughter! But it was literally for 15 minutes… 15 minutes into a meeting, 15 minutes into a movie, 15 minutes into anything. The doors opened, but I had to walk through them by myself. That has always been a challenge for me, and really exciting.”

She further added how she had to prove herself as a vocalist in London. She added, “In the UK, it was like, ‘Oh, she’s a star!’, ‘She has a fan following!’ when the doors opened, but I still had to do the walking. They don’t care about the 35 million people who know me here because they don’t know if that would translate into something tangible. I had to prove myself as a vocalist, a songwriter and a performer. To them, I was the girl whose name they couldn’t usually pronounce. It has been humbling — and liberating.”

Excited to start a new film with one of my favourite actors ! Such a lovely team  positive, progressive and fun !!

Talking about her break from films, Shruti said she didn’t go anywhere as she did not take up Tamil films but did two films in between, one of which was Behen Hogi Teri and Katamarayudu in Telugu.

Meanwhile, Shruti has hit the headlines over her break up with London based artist Michael Corsale.
