The Queen's Gambit: Netflix's historical drama to now be adapted as a stage musical after its massive success.

Streaming platforms raised the bar throughout the lockdown by giving us new shows, new films and some great binge-worthy content. One of them was Netflix's limited miniseries The Queen's Gambit. The historical drama starring Anna-Taylor Joy in the lead role, the show opened to critical acclaim from across the world. It soon went on to trend in Netflix's top 10 shows even in India and reportedly reached 62 million households within a month of its premiere in 2020.

After the show's massive success, The Queen's Gambit is now getting a brand new adaptation. No, it isn't a sequel to the limited miniseries. As much as we would love to have one, the Scott Frank directorial is going to theatre. Yes, you heard that right. The Queen's Gambit will now be adapted into a stage musical and has been acquired by entertainment firm Level Forward.

According to a report in digitalspy.com, the miniseries which is based on 1983 novel by Walter Tevis will now be under the stage spotlight.

"It is a privilege for Level Forward to lead the charge of bringing The Queen's Gambit to the stage through the beloved and enduring craft of musical theatre," the report quoted Level Forward's CEO Adrienne Becker and producer Julia Dunetz from the official statement.

Adding, "The story is a siren call amidst our contemporary struggles for gender and racial equity, and we're looking forward to moving the project forward."

Meanwhile, actress Anna Taylor Joy has kept hopes of fans alive as she did not shut down another season of The Queen's Gambit. "It is obviously incredibly flattering that people want to spend more time with characters that we care so much about and that we poured so much love into, but we did intend it to be a limited series, so we were all quite surprised when people started asking for season two. That being said, never say never."
